only has to look at her paintings - wonderfully atmospheric, but the subject always captured 
perfectly - she is a skilled portraitist, which I think is indicative of a great talent. 
As for her art classes, she has a uniquely relaxed (but very positive and encouraging) 
approach to teaching. She lets you get on with it, but is there to help whenever you ask. She 
therefore spends most of the session helping one or other of the aspiring artists with whatever 
they are painting or drawing. The atmosphere during the art class is wonderful - I have 
thoroughly enjoyed myself, feel totally inspired to paint more, and have recommended Cathy

"Cathy’s art sessions, for me are just perfect. It’s the only time in my busy weekly schedule that I 
can switch off and have some ‘me’ time. Her teaching method is exactly what I need, as she directs 
and works with your own creativity. She does not tell you what you should be doing, but asks you 
to look at your work and to suggest ways of improvement. She also, is happy to show you specific 
techniques when dealing with different mediums, like watercolour or gouache or to achieve 
specific effects. It’s also great to see other students work and progress as we also learn and pick up 
techniques from each other, it always amazes me the good quality work I see from us all at the end

"Having moved to Sevenoaks from Singapore where I was learning oil painting, I was in 
desperate need of a similar art group so that I could continue with my learning. After a few 
months of search I found Cathy Bird through the Sevenoaks Art Club. 
From her website, I liked what I saw in Cathy's own work and I thought why not try the 
classes. Although Cathy has vast experience in teaching art and deep knowledge of art, she 
is not intimidating. She has a softly, softly style that is encouraging and yet firm in guiding a 
novice painter like me to create good works. And because of her own relaxed style, she has 
nurtured an art group that is welcoming and fun to paint with. Also, the studio is just so "arty" 
a little of this and that all in an organised mess within a farm barn setting!
